Time to Get Growing

  1. Nice to see your preparations, Allan, to plant some highly scented flowers under the window of the living room (?) If you could make this plot a raised one, your plants would have more leg-room. The rose bushes would look beautiful and stay there for years to come.

If you look up my last post The Last Gardener of Aleppo, you will see what some of my garden looks like.

naturetails.blog when put on Google, will take you directly to my posts.

    1. Glad things are drying out a bit Luisa. If we could get some rain here right now, the greens would pop. Happy Sunday. Allan

  3. Thanks Joanna. I am planning to plant some sweet peas in the bed next to the trellis. And as always, there will be petunias. We will be looking for a larger lilac bush for the back and it ma be time to try a few hardy roses again. But, first, I need to add to the soil. The bed in front of my deck is the veggie garden, so that will be again filled with tomatoes, carrots and potatoes. Indeed, I will give your post and blog a look. Happy Sunday Joanna. Allan

  5. I like the present day posts, Allan. Your photos on the winter ones are nice too, but I would rather be thinking about spring when it’s springtime. I was sorry to hear that the ground is still frozen. I guess I shouldn’t complain about a cool spring morning when I have the first tulips popping out and the ground is not frozen here.

    1. I hear you Anneli. Spring posts like our spring, will come….some day. Our first blooms are likely to be dandelions, followed by the blooms on my Schubert chokecherry. Have a pleasant Sunday. Allan

  6. Allan, it looks like all is in order in your yard/garden for welcoming spring growth 🙂 I’ve read about the Canadian wildfires. Not good.

Since we’re still having rain here, on the weekend no less, I’ve not yet been able to return to gardening. The chilly winds are also no help 😦

    1. Crazy times. Too much rain in the East and no rain in the West. West snow, snow flurries and blowing snow are predicted for Tues/Wed. Perhaps some moisture there. No serious rain until the 27th and that is too far away to believe. Thanks for reading Rosaliene. Allan

  7. Looks like early Spring where you are to me. We are in high Spring here with our superstars, azaleas, dogwoods, and redbuds inching past peak bloom. You can track Spring’s advance up the flanks of the Blue Ridge by seeing where there is new green among the brown sides.

    1. We are still in hide and seek spring here. +17C today then cooling until +1 on Wednesday and wet snow, snow flurries and blowing snow. Spring will get here…..eventually. Cheers. Allan

      1. Sure hope you get some of the rains we have enjoyed regularly in the last two months. Not good news about more wild fires than last year.

  8. I love your new yard art, Allan. So sorry to hear about the fires. BC has 90 holdovers from last summer, all of which are under presently under control, but extended dry and hot conditions could quickly change that.
Warmer weather will arrive, accompanied I hope by some rain for your area.

    1. We actually heard about these guys from Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. They even have one with him and the pūteketeke. We are not smelling any smoke yet, but there have been grass fires nearby fed by the spring winds. The temps have been great lately, but will drop Tuesday when the snow starts. Yay!!! Thanks for reading Lynette. Allan

  9. I love April in the garden. Love its sounds, its new-born scents, its promise that somehow all will be good. I am glad to see that you are out of the winter slumber, Allan. Your garden looks splendid and so is your yard art! Spring is a busy time of year for gardeners starting to get the garden ready for the warmer, sunnier months ahead, but it’s so worth it by the time of harvest comes around. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

    1. For the first part of April, we have been waking up to the sounds of…..crows. Not our favourite, but the last few mornings, we are hearing robins, chickadees and get a 5:45 AM flyby of a quacking duck. I will get working the soil in early May and plant some seeds then. Bedding plants never get planted here before June 1, as frost can still hit up then. Hoping for enough rain to help my garden survive. Have a wonderful Monday Aiva. Allan

  10. Your yard looks very tidy. We’ve been busy with yard work and gardening as well. I just planted some spinach, kale, beets and turnips in my raised beds this morning.

    1. Thanks. Hopefully it will get a bit greener soon. I will plant my seeds here in May and tomato bedding plants at the end of May. There is always a risk of frost even up to June 1. Thanks for reading Linda. Allan. Allan

    1. No doubt Paris would be shining right now. We were shining yesterday too under 8 cm of heavy wet snow. Happy Thursday. Allan
