Recalling My Past

Photos taken in November 11, 12 and 15, 2023.

  1. No more food grazing. Meals twice a day only.
  2. No treats as a reward for good behaviour.
  3. No talking to the dog…(who was he calling “the dog”) except for commands or praise.
  4. No furniture or laps….ever.

    1. That is what we thought, but Benji seemed to take it all in stride. Still, you would sometimes see him look at the couch questioning our resolve. Thanks for reading and commenting Pat. Allan

    1. Oooooh, now me too. The first (worst) time we heard it was in Christchurch NZ in 1988 from a children’s entertainer when our son was just a toddler. He liked it, we did not. Happy Friday Kymber. Allan

  4. I can never get enough of Benji’s photos, Allan and I love how his character shines through them. No more grazing rules sounds tough, but I guess that even dogs need to be taught household manners. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day. Aiva xx

    1. Glad you are enjoying Aiva. These shots were really cute and I am glad I found a post for them. Benji adapted quite well to the new rules. Thanks for reading Aiva. Allan

  5. A friend just got 2 Bernese Mountain dogs. And they are allowed furniture, beds, and laps. At 130 pounds, will they change their minds???? I like Benji’s rules, and while we “train” with treats, none of our dogs ever became treat dependent. Mostly because we would forget the treats somedays!! Eventually, they lived without them.

    1. Bernese Mountain dogs on beds. Yikes. Maybe the humans can sleep on the floor. Strange thing, Benji really did not miss the treats, whereas before whenever he heard a package rustle, you had his attention. All of a sudden his appetite was much improved and after a week of 2 a day meals, he knew the routine. Thanks for reading Bernie. Have a wonderful weekend. Allan

  6. And who does Brad think he is? ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. Aside from his macho persona with perhaps a touch of inappropriateness and misogyny, Brad really does know what he is talking about when it comes to dogs and other canines. Even Benji came to like him in time. Now, on the first meeting…..

    2. Brad mostly trains the humans to let dogs be dogs. Some of us are slow learners. ๐Ÿ˜•

  8. I love how he has his own bed up on the back of the sofa! And those photos of him from outside through the window are darling. Were you watching a dog-themed show, WA?

    1. Ahhh, the good old days when we dared to cater to Benji with comfortable seats. The shots from outside were so good, as he spotted me and was trying to make me notice. As to the show, early on, anything with an animal in it would set him barking. By the time we left, his training made him a lot calmer. Thanks for reading Lynette. Allan

  9. Awww. Poor Benji. He’s had to sacrifice a lot. Surely he deserves a treat for his good behaviour!?

    1. Psssst. I snuck him some treats in his kibble and he still gets his morning Greenie. He never really seemed to miss the treats once he knew the rules. Thanks for reading Linda. Allan
