  1. Those views are incredible! I love that you could take a break on the balcony and see such sites! The Butterfly looks to me like it’s almost done?

    1. Sometimes in a busy city, the best views are closest to home. The highrise condo towers in Vancouver seem to take a long time to finish, but towers are continually popping up as the population grows. Thanks for reading Kymber. Allan

  2. I love those views toward False Creek & English Bay from the balcony and would never get enough of them. I couldn’t resist and had to have a peek to see how much are the apartments going for.  Apparently, available Butterfly units range in price from $3,508,900 to $7,873,900. How did Vancouver housing prices became so out of whack? Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

  3. Great views indeed. And looking at the Butterfly and many for the new condo towers is all the average person can do. Vancouver started to get too expensive about the same time as Hong Kong was repatriated. A lot of money was moved into this area for safe harbour and many of the units in those days and even today were bought without even being seen. At one time, many of the new units were not being lived in by the owners, which prompted the provincial government to bring in a speculation tax to discourage out of province buyers. Vancouver’s housing is the most expensive in Canada and indeed in North America, even $50,000 more expensive than San Francisco’s average price. Younger folks have little hope of buying a home there these days. Thanks for reading and your questions Aiva. Allan

    1. It’s sad to see that the promise of homeownership is simply broken. It’s also sad because it is happening all around the world – that there is too little housing, far too little affordable housing and far too many investors bidding houses up and out of reach, creating a rapidly widening divide between housing haves and have-nots.  Like climate change, it’s the result of policy choices and behaviours that have tipped the scales toward disaster for decades.

      1. It is the age old law of supply and demand. The smaller the supply, the more the builders can demand. Their are now multi family mortgages or generational mortgages, where the house and the debt gets passed down. In Coastal B.C.s case, the off shore money snapped up the properties as quickly as they were built. I agree, it is a sad state of affairs for the new generations. Allan

    1. Knowing what a steep learning curve it is with a little one in the house, we were happy to help. We also got to spend quality time with all three plus Benji. Thanks for reading Christie. Allan

    1. I think we were gifted with mostly good weather on this visit, compared to what November and December weather can bring. It was good to step outside from time to time, even though it was a bit cool. Thanks for reading Lynette. Allan

    1. Thanks Lori. It’s amazing what you see when you look out the window. Not quite like our view at home… Thanks for reading. Allan

  8. Even though you had a busy day, at least you managed to find some time to spend with Benji and to take some pictures. I am now craving Italian food for dinner. Mmm.

    1. Agreed. It was not bad having a more relaxing pace that day. We found a family style Italian restaurant in the area. It had been a while since we had seen the term Spaghetti Joint used. We will go back next time we are in Vancouver. Thanks for reading Linda. Allan
